200 days of protest against CAA, NRC in Tamluk

Tamluk: CAA, NRC and NPR sit-ins were held for 200 days in Sonamui of Tamluk in East Midnipur district, West Bengal. On Thursday, Welfare Party’s state member Sahjadi Parveen, District General Secretary of Purba Medinipur
Sheikh Amenul Islam, one of the women’s district committee members Sainaz Begum, Aktari Bibi and Ajmira Bibi and other leaders were present on the stage. Like other days, the preamble of the constitution is also read on this day.

The movement was stopped due to Covid19. Then two years later, continuous sit-in against CAA, NRC started in West Bengal. Welfare Party of India started this dharna in Uttar Sonamui area of Tamluk in East Midnapore district. The women of East Medinipur district branch of the party are constantly on dharna.

Sarwar Hasan, State General Secretary of the party, said that the protest against CAA was stopped due to Corona and lockdown. But the government has not changed the law yet. We want to make it clear that granting citizenship on the basis of religion is against the constitution, against the tradition of India. Narendra Modi government forcefully brought this law for narrow interests despite objections from opposition parties in Parliament. The movement will continue until the CAA is repealed like the Agriculture Act.

But how long will the movement? Sarwar Hasan said, “it could be one year, it could be ten years. The movement will continue until the CAA 2019 is repealed.”

The presence of women on the dharna stage is more. On the first day, the party’s State president Manasa Sen inaugurated the programme. Then various leaders including Central President Dr. SQR Ilyas came there. Various social activists, human rights activists and political activists also came to the dharna stage.
Mansa Sen, State President of WPI
said that unity in diversity is India’s tradition. People of India will not accept CAA 2019. BJP brought this law to create division among people.

The agitators say that the central government has said that there will be no NRC. So why NRC law? There will be protests if the NPR is the first phase of NRC along with the census.
