Brick factory chimney collapses, four dead; More than 30 people were injured

West Bengal: Four people were killed and more than 30 injured in West Bengal when the bricks on one side of a huge chimney collapsed.

The news agency PTI reported that the incident took place in Dhalthita village of Basirhat area of ​​North 24 Parganas district.

Police informed that the incident took place on Wednesday evening in Dhalthita village of Basirhat when they were trying to restart a brick kiln that had been closed for a year.

“Two died while undergoing treatment at a nearby hospital. Two bodies were found under the rubble. All of them were brick kiln workers,” said a police officer.

Two of the deceased have been identified as Jethuram and Rakesh Kumar, hailing from Faizabad in Uttar Pradesh, while the other has been identified as Hafizul Mondal, a native of Uttar Pradesh. The identity of the fourth person is yet to be found. At the time of the incident, 60 workers were engaged in bricklaying, police said.

West Bengal Police said that the cause of the chimney collapse is yet to be ascertained and an investigation will be carried out.
