“I was and still am an RSS member”: Retired Calcutta High Court Judge

Retired Calcutta High Court judge Chitta Ranjan Dash retired on Tuesday (May 21). Speaking on the occasion, he said that Rashtriya Swayam Seva Sangh (RSS) has helped me change my personality and given me the courage for patriotism.

Speaking at the farewell function, he said, “I have been associated with RSS since childhood. I have to reveal my true nature. I am deeply indebted to an institution. I was in RSS from my childhood till I became a young man. From there, I have learned courage, honesty, equal feelings towards others, and the feeling of patriotism, to be committed wherever I work,” he said.

“I admit that I was, and still am, in the RSS. After becoming a judge, I kept a distance from RSS for the last 37 years due to work. I did not use RSS membership in my career growth. Because it was against my principles,” he said.

“I have acted impartially while passing judgment. BJP, Congress, Communists, and TMC have treated everyone equally. I was not against anyone. Everyone is equal to me. I followed two principles while giving justice. The first is compassion, the second can bend the law for the sake of justice but cannot bend justice for the sake of the law,” he said.

A native of Odisha, Dash has served as a judge in the Odisha and Calcutta High Courts.
