A Delhi court on Wednesday rejected a wrestler’s plea in jail, saying the additional demands for special food and supplements in the jail were “wishes and desires”, not necessity.
Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Satvir Singh Lamba said: “Through the present application, the accused / applicant is not claiming any reduction in a person’s daily diet, their quantity and general source of nutrition as stated in the Delhi Jail Rules, 2018. This means that the accused / applicant has been provided a balanced and healthy diet, the court said in its order.
The court further said that Sushil Kumar, who was accused of killing his 23-year-old fellow wrestler, was not suffering from any disease.
The court observed, “The law should be equal and should be treated equally, it should be treated equally.”
Sushil’s lawyers asked the court to allow the accused special food and supplements which include protein, omega-3 capsules, combined capsules, pre-workout C4, Hyde, multivitamin GNC, exercise band as they He wanted to continue his career in wrestling.
The court said that with the request, Sushil “expressed a desire to pursue his future career in wrestling”, however, he did not disclose the details of any upcoming competition for which he was a part. Eligible to take and no contest name is mentioned, In which he is taking part in the near future.
Sushil Kumar, the only Indian to win two individual Olympic medals, was arrested by Delhi Police on May 23 on charges of killing his junior Sagar Dhankar at the Chhatrasal Stadium in the national capital.
Police allege that Kumar and his accomplices beat up the young wrestler and two of his friends after an altercation in May. Dr. Dhankad later died at the hospital.
Sushil Kumar had been on the run for almost three weeks before his arrest.
The wrestler has been kept in a separate cell in Delhi’s Mandoli Jail. For security reasons, he is not allowed to meet anyone.
