Congress president Mallikarjuna Kharge said the first meeting of the reconstituted Congress Working Committee (CWC) to be held in Hyderabad today (September 16) will focus on the upcoming assembly elections in five states.
Kharge confirmed that party leaders Rahul Gandhi, Sonia Gandhi, and Priyanka Gandhi will attend the meeting.
Speaking to reporters in Delhi, Kharge said, “This is the first CWC meeting after I took charge as the party president. Tomorrow there will also be an extended working committee meeting where party-related discussions will be held.”
“Rahul Gandhi, Sonia Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi, and all senior leaders will be present in the meeting and will discuss the upcoming elections in five states and plan accordingly. A discussion will be held with our alliance partner ‘India’ in the next meeting,” said Kharge.
Announcing the detailed plan for the CWC meeting on Friday, general secretaries KC Venugopal and Jairam Ramesh said it would be the first time in many years that the party’s top decision-making body would hold its deliberations outside Delhi for three days.
A meeting of the extended CWC will be held on Sunday (September 17) where all state party chiefs and CLP leaders, parliamentary party office-bearers, and Central Election Committee members have been invited to strategize for the upcoming elections.
On the same day, celebrated as ‘Telangana National Integration Day’, the Congress will hold a “mega rally” near Hyderabad. These six promises will be announced for the Telangana assembly elections.
CWC has 39 ordinary members, 32 permanent invitees, and 13 special invitees. 15 of them are women and several new faces like Shashi Tharoor, Sachin Pilot, and Gaurav Gogoi are regular members.
