New Delhi: ‘Jawaharlal Nehru is well known for the works he did during his time, not just by name, Nehru’s great-grandson Rahul Gandhi has reacted sharply.
He replied to a media question about changing the name of Nehru Memorial Museum and Library (NMML) to Pradhan Mantri Memorial Museum and Library (PMML). He spoke to the media when he arrived at the airport on Thursday for a two-day visit to Leh.
There has been a war of words between the BJP and the opposition parties over the name change issue. Congress’s Jairam Ramesh responded and said, ‘Narendra Modi will never be able to take away Jawaharlal Nehru’s wonderful contribution in the country’s freedom struggle’.
He mentioned this in his account on the micro-blogging site (Twitter) and said, ‘Narendra Modi has changed the name of the museum and the library. When it comes to Jawaharlal Nehru, the country’s first and longest-serving Prime Minister, it is clear that Modi suffers from fear and insecurity. “Modi’s only aim is to destroy, deny and defame Nehru and his works of the past”, he said.
PMML Vice President Surya Prakash said on Wednesday, ‘This new museum will showcase the wonderful contributions of Jawaharlal Nehru to the country. Nehru’s contribution to modern India, the planning commission, the start of technology institutes, etc. will be available to those who visit the centre.
