The ad-hoc division of the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) is scheduled to deliver its verdict on Indian wrestler Vinesh Phogat’s appeal regarding a joint silver medal in the women’s 50kg wrestling event at the Paris Olympics 2024 by 9:30 PM IST today, August 10.
CAS has extended the decision deadline to 6:00 PM Paris time on August 10, 2024. This follows the CAS ad-hoc division’s acceptance of Phogat’s appeal against her disqualification for being 100 grams overweight on the morning of her final match against eventual gold medalist Sarah Ann Hildebrandt of the USA.
While The United World Wrestling (UWW), which is termed as the parent body of world wrestling, pushed Vinesh off a podium finish according to the game rules.
“Indian Olympic Association remained hopeful of a positive resolution of wrestler Vinesh Phogat’s application before the Ad hoc Division of the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) against her failed weigh-in,” the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) said in a statement.
