After a long halt Pakistan finally won it’s match against Bangladesh by 7 wickets at the Edens Gardens, Kolkata. This win was much needed for the team to stay alive for the slightest hope for getting into the semis.
Bangladesh won the toss and decided to bat and the team had to wrap itself at 45 overs with merely 204 runs on the board which was easily achievable. The batting line-up of Bangladesh struggled from the beginning as we saw early fall of wickets of opener Tanzid Hasan while Liton Das made 45 runs. Most of the batsmen made single digit runs and were out by Pakistan bowlers. It was only Mahmudullah who made a half century (56). Maximum wickets were taken by Shaheen Afridi and M. Wasim as they took 3 wickets each while Haris Rauf settled for 2 wickets.
The following target was more than easy for Pakistan as they had to play with consistency. Pakistan batting line-up saw some great contribution by the openers like Abdullah Shafique and Fakhar Zaman who made 68 and 81 runs respectively. From Bangladesh end, it was only Mehidy Hasan who took all 3 wickets by giving 60 runs. Fakhar Zaman was awarded with the player of the match trophy.
