The Afghans declared their third win and this time it was against the Lankan team. Afghanistan won the match by 7 wickets while chasing an easy target of 242 runs at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune.
Afghanistan won the toss and decided to bowl where they made the tigers walk back to the pavilion with only 241 runs on the scorecard. While, from the side of Sri Lanka, it was only Pathum Nissanka who contributed a maximum of 46 runs whereas the captain of the team, Kusal Mendis only made 39 runs and Angelo Mathews made 23 runs. From Afghanistan, it was Fazalhaq Farooqi who took 4 wickets by only giving 34 runs.
In reply, Afghanistan played really well with every batsmen giving his best to the team and to keep the spirits alive of being in the semis. While Rahmat Shah scored 62 runs off 74 balls, Afghanistan captain, Hashmatullah Shahidi made 58 runs. Another emerging star was Azmatullah Omarzai who made 73 runs which took his partnership with Shahidi to 135 runs.
The underdogs yet again proved themselves that they still have the chances to be in the semis by defeating England and Sri Lanka.
