The BCCI in a historic move, announced equal pay for women Team India cricketers, along with the men cricketers. Jay Shah, BCCI Secretary announced the news on Twitter.
He tweeted, “I’m pleased to announce BCCI’s first step towards tackling discrimination. We are implementing a pay equity policy for our contracted women cricketers. The match fee for both Men and Women Cricketers will be the same as we move into a new era of gender equality in Indian Cricket.”
The women cricketers will now be paid the same match fee as their male counterparts. 15 Lakhs for a Test match, 6 lakhs for ODI and 3 lakhs for T20.
Shah tweeted that it equity in pay was his commitment to Indian women cricketers.
The unprecedented popularity of women’s cricket had raised questions about pay equity between men’s and women’s cricket. This decision of equal pay will make more Indian women choose cricket as a career.
