India won by two wickets in its first T20 series against Australia. After a one month long ICC tournament, 2023, the world cup finalists- India and Australia, both the teams were once again in front of each other at the ACA-VDCA Stadium in Vishakhapatnam on November 23, 2023. This time it was about the T20 series between the men in blue and the Aussies.
As most of the experienced players of the team are on a break, this time Indian team consisted of some new and fresh faces and the young players were given more opportunity to outshine in the match. The Aussies won the toss and decided to bat first and they made 208 runs with the loss of mere 3 wickets. Australia witnessed the century by Josh Inglis who made 110 runs in just 50 balls while Steve Smith attained a half century by making 52 runs off 41 balls. From India’s side, Prasidh Krishna and Ravi Bisnoi took one wicket each.
India in return made 209 runs and attained a neck-to-neck win. Indian fans had their hearts in their mouths when there were 2 runs needed from 2 balls and continuous two wickets fell. It was Rinku Singh who maintained his pace while playing and did not let the Aussies take his wicket. The Indian team also saw some commendable performances from the team’s captain, Suryakumar Yadav who made 80 runs off 42 balls and Ishan Kishan made his half century by making 58 runs off 39 balls before being out by Tanveer Sangha. While Jason Behrendorff took the wicket of Suryakumar Yadav in the final overs.
Suryakumar Yadav was given the player of the match trophy for contributing 80 runs and helping the team win against the Australians. Although, the winning shot and the nerve-wrecking win was much possible because of the younger Indian player, Rinku Singh.
