India marked it’s fifth consecutive victory against New Zealand in the 21st match of the World Cup, 2023 at the HPCA stadium in Dharamshala. After winning the toss, the team decided to field where New Zealand created a target of 274. After loosing two early wickets, the Kiwis were able to get a stable partnership from Rachin Ravindra (75) and Daryl Mitchell (130). From the bowlers end, Mohammad Shami took 5 wickets, although this was his first World Cup match of 2023. The second highest number of wickets was taken by Kuldeep Yadav (2 for 73 runs)
In reply, India’s captain, Rohit Sharma was closeto half century (46) while Shubman Gill made 26 runs. Ferguson took 2 wickets while Trent Boult and Mitchell Santner settled for 1 wicket each. India saw a remarkable achievement by King Kohli who maintained his pace from the previous match where he made his century. He made 95 runs and Glenn Phillips took his wicket. Kohli was close to his second century before being caught by Trent Boult.
Virat Kohli struck 95 off 105 balls and shared 78 runs with Ravindra Jadeja (39 not out) for the sixth wicket to chase down the 274-run target in 48 overs.
The man of the match was awarded to Mohammad Shami for restricting the Kiwis to 273 runs. He deserved this award for being such a star performer.
