There is finally an official confirmation from the Board of Cricket Council of India (BCCI) that Rahul Dravid and his support staff would continue into their respective roles as the former India captain could have an additional chance to have a go at an ICC event.
While, during the press release the news of extension was not confirmed by the BCCI it appears like Dravid, Mhambrey (bowling coach), Paras and T Dilip (fielding coach) and Vikram Rathour (batting coach) would confirm their stay on until the T20 World Cup in June next year. Meanwhile, VVS Laxman continues to head the National Cricket Academy located in Bengaluru.
It is true that under Rahul Dravid’s captaincy, the team is yet to win a trophy but it is the Indian team under the captaincy of Rohit Sharma who has wished to take a new approach, especially in the while ball strategy. They took an approach while making the players stick to their strengths in the 50-over format. The positive result was such that India had made it to the World Cup finals which took place at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. Additionally, Dravid also spoke about the team culture which he found it easy to build with the captain after signing on for the extension. “I am genuinely proud of the culture we have set in the dressing room. It’s a culture that stands resilient, whether in moments of triumph or adversity,” he said in a statement released by BCCI.
Apart from coaching the Indian team in the T20 World Cup, India will also play two test matches in South Africa and a five-Test home series against England. Jay Shah, secretary of the BCCI stated that Dravid will have the “full backing” and “all the support needed for his sustained success at the international level.”
