Two UAE cricket players banned for eight years by ICC for corruption act

Dubai: Two crickets of UAE have received a major blow to their career after ICC bans them for eight years on charges of violating anti corruption code.

The players, Amir Hayat and Ashfaq Ahmed were slapped with an eight year ban from playing international cricket. Both players were suspended in 2020 for their corrupt behavior during the ICC T20 World Cup Qualifier held in UAE.

Hayat had clinched 17 wickets in 13 ODI’s and Ashfaq had played some 28 matches for UAE. Meanwhile, reports for ICC said that both players have been found guilty in five cases, following which, the ban was imposed.

General Manager of ICC, Alex Marshall said that since both players are playing cricket for quite a long time, they were fully aware of the rules and regulations of ICC and punishment they get for offences such as match fixing.

He added that both players have attended  several rounds of classes organised by ICC on anti corruption related matters.

Since they committed an offence despite knowing the rules, therefore, they have been banned from playing for eight years. The harsh punishment should act as a message and tough warning to other players, he said.
