Warner Bid Adieu as Australia Whitewash Pakistan

Pakistan were whitewashed by Australia as they had won the Third test of the series by 8 wickets in Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) on Saturday. In the last test innings of the career David Warner scored a valuable 57 to guide Australia to comfortable victory.

In the first innings, Pakistan scored 313 runs with the help of wicket keeper Mohammad Rizwan (88) and all- rounder Aamer Jamal (82). In reply, Australia scored 299. Jamal also contributed heavily with ball as he picked up 6 for 69. Pakistan collapsed in the second innings as they had bundled out for a mere 115 runs.

Needing only 130 to win, Australia were rocked early as they had lost opener Usman Khawaja for a duck. After that, David Warner and Marnus Labuschagne (62 not out) helped Aussies to cruise to comfortable win. When off spinner dismissed Warner for 57, Australia needed only 11 runs to win. Fair to say, Warner, in his last innings took Australia to the doorstep of victory.

David Warner said after the match, “It’s pretty much a dream come true. You win 3-0 and cap off what’s been a great 18 months to 2 years for the Australian cricket team. World Test Championship win, Ashes series draw and then the World Cup. To come here and finish 3-0 is an outstanding achievement. I’m proud to be with a bunch of great cricketers here. These guys, they work their backsides off, the engine room – the three big quicks plus Mitchell Marsh – they work tirelessly in the j them ever again in the nets, which I don’t do anyway, so that helps. (Today morning) Just a casual walk up to the local cafe, get a coffee with a young one, and then I just got into the car. I felt happy and really proud. To come here in front of your home crowd with the support they’ve shown me and the Australian cricket over the last decade or my career, I can’t thank them enough. Without you guys, we aren’t able to do what we do.”

Pat Cummins was given the player of the tournament award and Aamer Jamal received the player of the match award for his all- round performance in this match.
