England had to face another defeat from the hands of the Indian team at Ekana stadium in Lucknow. This is the fifth consecutive loss for the team as it had not only failed to prove itself but also had failed to live up to the expectations of the world where it is still considered to be the strongest teams of all. Is it the Indian pitch or the mismanagement of the captain that had led to such a drastic change in performance of team? The reason is not known yet.
The match started with England winning the toss and going for bowling first. England had performed very well throughout its batting where it restricted the men in blue to 229 runs only. India’s batting-line failed in front of England where only Rohit Sharma was able to contribute to the maximum runs. The captain made 87 runs off 101 balls while it was in the middle overs when Surya Kumar Yadav added another 49 runs in the match. Other than these two batsmen, big shots like Shubman Gill and Virat Kohli did not perform well. While Gill made 9 runs, Kohli did not get a chance to make runs as he was out at 0. David Willey took 3 wickets while Chris Woakes, Adil Rashid took 2 wickets each and Liam Livingstone had to settle by taking 1 wicket.
The overall target for England was much achievable but the team was not able to achieve the aforesaid target also. England had a good pace in the first 4 overs and the team went down from the fifth over where 3 wickets were lost with merely 11 runs made. The team had to wrap up at 129 runs where Mohammed Shami took 4 wickets while Bumrah took 3 wickets. Kuldeep Yadav also took 2 wickets for 22 runs in 8 overs. The player of the match was awarded to Rohit Sharma for the second time.
