The Indian Cricket Team’s hidden jewel, right arm fast bowler, Mohammad Shami who was made seated for the first four matches in the World Cup, 2023, was finally called into action when Hardik Pandya was injured while bowling during the match between India vs Bangladesh on October 19. This forced the Indian Cricket team to take Mohmmad Shami in his place during the match between India vs New Zealand where the bowler outshone himself and took five wickets and received the player of the match title despite King Kohli’s close century (95).
It certainly makes us question the reason that why such a in form bowler has not been provided a chance despite his stable performances over the past few years. There is no doubt that the BCCI has taken Shami’s side when he was going through a personal turmoil and they stood by his side by giving him enough opportunities, but what has happened now? The 11-member team squad is continuing to give Shardul Thakur with multiple chances where he is not being in form from the last three matches. The all-rounder is yet to bat as the in-form batsmen like Vira Kohli, KL Rahul and Rohit Sharma are stealing the show, while he has only taken two wickets in the last three matches. At a time when the team is already flooded with in-form batsmen, there is no need for another all-rounder rather it could have provided chance to Mohmmad Shami.
It makes the fans question that is it really the Indian squad or is it the BCCI who is stopping Shami to perform and prove himself in the World Cup matches. The right arm fast bowler proved everyone that no matter, how many matches he is made to sit outside the pavilion, he will always come out with flying coolers and will always give his best. Nobody could imagine that a bowler who has not played in the first four matches of the World Cup, when provided an opportunity, comes and takes away five wickets at one go. This can only be achieved by Mohmmad Shami and no one else. He always maintains his calm and does not speak anything against the system. He quietly comes in and shows his potential and silently leaves the pavilion. He is the true embodiment of “Action speak louder than words.”
