Olympic village records first Covid case amid rapid preparations

Tokyo: With the preparations for Olympic games underway in Tokyo, Japan, the Olympic village built in Tokyo has recorded its first case of Covid.

According to international news agency, the person who is found to be suffering from Covid is said to be a member of international delegation. However so far no details available on the nationality or the gender of the infected person.

While a total of 15 new cases have been reported from other parts of the venue, it was the first in the village. Of the total infected persons, seven are said to be living in Japan while the remaining are foreigners.

It may be noted that the Olympic games were first scheduled to be held last year itself, but due to Covid pandemic, the event was postponed.

The event will now start from July 28, however without any spectator to prevent the spreading of Covid.

The Japanese government has already declared a state emergency in Tokyo till August 22, which means that the curbs will remain effective till the end of the Olympics.
