Sania Mirza plays her farewell match at Hyderabad’s LB Stadium, where it all began

Sania Mirza on Sunday played her farewell match at Hyderabad’s Lal Bahadur Stadium, where Sania began her career at the age of 16.

The farewell match was attended by IT minister KTR, actor Dulquer Salman, cricketer Yuvraj Singh, former Indian cricket captain Mohammed Azharuddin, Sania’s proud parents and a cheering home crowd of Hyderabad.

Sania played in two exhibition matches against Indian tennis player Rohan Bopanna, Indian all-arounder Yuvraj Singh, who won the 2011 ICC Cricket World Cup, and American tennis player Bethanie Mettek Sands, who she referred to as her “best friend” and former doubles partner. She won both of her matches, much to the delight and joy of the enthusiastic home fans.

There were many young people and schoolchildren in the crowd who were supporting her. Sania, 36, was with her son Izhaan Mirza Malik and became overwhelmed when she saw their reception.

“These are very, very happy tears. I could not have asked for a better send-off,” Sania Mirza expressed her emotions.
