Canada announces a donation of USD 10 million to the Indian Red Cross

Expressing solidarity over India’s unprecedented medical emergency to fight against the COVID-19 pandemic, Canada has offered 10 million USD to the Indian Red Cross to support and provide essential supplies.

International Development’s Canadian Minister Karina Gould offered medical and other essentials supplies to India.

According to an official statement, “Today, Karina Gould, Minister of International Development, announced that Canada is providing USD 10 million in funding for humanitarian assistance to the Canadian Red Cross to support the Indian Red Cross Society’s response to the devastating situation; unfolding in India.”

“Canada’s contribution will support the procurement of essential supplies and medicines, including oxygen cylinders for clinics and ambulances,” the release added.

To control the spread of COVID-19 worldwide, Canada is working with its partners and international organizations. It is necessary to help those affected by the pandemic and protect their health and safety.

Canadians who wish to donate to the emergency efforts in India can do it through Canadian Red Cross.

“Canada stands with the people of India as they go through these difficult times. This funding will help meet some of the most urgent medical needs like purchasing and distributing essential supplies as well as supporting vital blood and ambulance services,” Karina Gould said.

While India fights against the unprecedented pandemic of COVID-19, countries like the US, UK, UAE, EU, France, and Germany have extended help.

Oxygen containers, cryogenic tanks, and other essential medical aids to produce vaccines have been shipped and airlifted from Dubai, Singapore and the US.

India reported more than 3.79 lakh fresh COVID-19 cases and around 3,645 deaths in the last 24 hours.

A total number of 3,79,257 fresh COVID-19 cases, with 3,645 fatalities, and 2,69,507 recoveries were registered in the last 24 hours, taking the total active cases 30,84,814, as per the health ministry update on Thursday morning.
