DGCA extends ban on International passenger flights till August 31

Travel ban on international flights has further been extended to August 31 by the Director General of Civil Aviation (DGCA). According to an announcement earlier, the ban on international commercial flights in India was going to end on July 31.

In a circular, the DGCA, however, said, “international scheduled flights may be allowed on selected routes by the competent authority on a case to case basis.”

This restriction doesn’t apply to flights specifically approved by DGCA and international all-cargo operations.

On March 23, scheduled international passenger flights were suspended in India due to the second wave of the Covid-19 pandemic. Since then, the aviation authority has extended the ban several times.

While the ban for domestic flights was lifted in May, international travel flights remained suspended as the Covid-19 cases were soaring.

Several flights have also been operating under a bilateral ‘air bubble’ arrangement for selected countries. India has formed accords with almost 24 countries worldwide including US, UK, UAE, France, Kenya and Bhutan.
