First Israeli President to visit Bahrain

Sunday saw the arrival of Israeli President Isaac Herzog in Bahrain, the first visit by an Israeli head of state to the tiny Gulf nation since the normalization of relations between the two nations in 2020.

Speaking to Bahrain’s King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, Mr. Herzog said, “You are at the forefront of making history in the region, where Jews and Muslims can dwell together, the sons of Abraham, and move forward in peace. It is a long process, but we can dream of it and we can see it.”

While Israel has achieved great progress with the UAE in the last two years, relations with Bahrain and other nations that normalised ties under arrangements arranged by the Trump administration known as the Abraham Accords in 2020 have been slower to flourish.
