International Muslim Organisation raises concern over hijab ban, genocidal calls, online harassment of Muslim women

Expressing deep concern over recent public calls for the genocide of Muslims in Hindu Parliaments, harassment of Muslim women on social media and the banning of female Muslim students wearing the hijab, the General Secretariat of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) has said that rising incidents of violence against Muslims by Hindutva groups with impunity, are indicative of the growing trend of Islamophobia.

In a statement, the OIC said, “The continued attacks targeting Muslims and their places of worship, the recent trend of anti-Muslim legislations in different States and rising incidents of violence against Muslims on flimsy pretexts by ‘Hindutva’ groups with impunity, are indicative of the growing trend of Islamophobia.”

The General Secretariat of OIC also called upon the international community, particularly the United Nations mechanisms and Special Procedures of the Human Rights Council, to take necessary measures in this regard.

Urging India to ensure the safety, security and wellbeing of the Muslim community, it also requests the country to protect the way of life of its members and to bring the instigators and perpetrators of acts of violence and hate crimes against them to justice.

After the UN, Organisation of Islamic Cooperation is he second largest inter-governmental organisation with the membership of 57 states, covering four continents. The OIC, founded in 1969 is the collective voice of the Muslim world to ensure and safeguard their interest on economic socio and political areas.
