In an effort to oppose Hindu nationalism and the coming genocide of Muslims in India, thousands of people protested on Sunday in London, United Kingdom. The protest demonstration was against the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) led government of India, the Hindu right-wing, and against Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Siasat News reported.
In an effort to put an end to the escalating Hindu-supremacist violence in India, more than 15 Indian diaspora organisations in the UK simultaneously called for the rally in London. They shouted slogans against state-sponsored killings, rapes, lynchings of Muslims, and the demolition of their homes, branding Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s policies as fascist. The protesters then marched in the direction of the Indian High Commission.
At the rally outside 10 Downing Street, Leicester East MP Claudia Webb spoke in support of Afreen Fatima and Indian Muslims whose homes were demolished. “I advocated for the rights and freedom of India’s religious minority. Their struggle is also our struggle, declared Webb.
She stated on Twitter that the stories of intolerable and increasing violence and prejudice against Muslims, Christians, Sikhs, Dalits, and Adivasis in India have the South Asian diaspora very concerned.
