Taslima Nasreen Comments on Sheikh Hasina’s Ouster: “Islamists Who Expelled Me Have Now Ousted Hasina”

New Delhi: Controversial author Taslima Nasreen, who faced severe protests and had to leave Bangladesh due to her book “Lajja,” has commented on the recent political developments in the country. She stated, “The Islamists who expelled me have now ousted Sheikh Hasina.”

Nasreen recalled, “In 1999, when I returned to Bangladesh to see my mother, Hasina expelled me to appease the Islamists. I was never allowed to re-enter the country. The same Islamists are now part of the student movement that forced Hasina to leave the country,” Nasreen wrote in an online post.

“Hasina had to resign and leave the country. She is responsible for her situation. She fostered the growth of Islamists and allowed corruption among her people. Now, Bangladesh must avoid becoming like Pakistan. The military should not rule the country. Political parties must bring democracy and uphold secularism,” she urged.
