‘Mr. Modi, whatever you call it, we will rebuild peace in Manipur’: Rahul Gandhi

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday hit back at Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s statement on the opposition alliance INDIA. “Call us what you want but we will rebuild the idea of India in Manipur,” he said.

Opposition coalition INDIA has been demanding that Prime Minister Modi should address the Manipur violence in Parliament, but Modi has criticized the name of the coalition. “The word India is also present in the name of organizations like East India Company, PFI, and Indian Mujahideen. Just because it is called India does not make it India. People cannot be misled by using the name of the country,” Modi said.

Modi’s statement led to a huge war of words between the opposition and BJP leaders. Rahul Gandhi tweeted that we will rebuild the idea of India in Manipur.

“The Opposition Front is trying to heal Manipur and rebuild the idea of India in the northeastern state,” he said.

“Mr. Modi, call us whatever you want. We are India. We strive to heal Manipur. We wipe the tears of every woman and child. We will fight to bring back love and peace to all the people of Manipur. We will rebuild the idea of India in Manipur,” he tweeted.

Congress President Mallikarjuna Kharge also responded to Modi’s sarcasm, saying, “The Prime Minister needs to make a comprehensive statement in Parliament for the 83 days of continuous violence in Manipur.”

”Full horror stories are slowly coming out now. India demands answers from Modi government on Manipur violence,” he said on Twitter.

“This is the right time for Modi to get rid of his arrogance and take the country into confidence by talking about the Manipur issue,” Kharge said.

“We demand that the Prime Minister make a statement in the House on the burning and emotional issue of Manipur, which is adversely affecting Indian democratic politics. “After a detailed and comprehensive discussion, violence continues in the North Eastern state,” Kharge said in his notice.

Senior Congress leader Digvijay Singh responded, “We have never seen such a Prime Minister who is afraid to answer in Parliament and if he has problems with the word ‘INDIA’, he should remove the word ‘Bharatiya’ from Startup India and BJP.” We are proud of the name ‘INDIA’,” he said.
