Cabinet Meeting agrees to purchase 1,245 new buses to power Shakti Yojana

Bengaluru: “The number of passengers has increased by 30% due to the implementation of the ‘Shakti’ scheme, for which the Cabinet has approved the purchase of 1,245 new buses at a cost of Rs.500 crore” Law and Parliamentary Minister HK Patil said this.

Passengers using personal and private vehicles are using public transport. This is the main reason for the increasing number of passengers. He said that buses over 15 years old and dilapidated buses need to be scrapped with the current norms in place to meet the increased demand.

He said that air-conditioned electric buses for BMTC will be operated on a net cost contract basis.
