VIT Bhopal Suspends ‘Bulli Bai’ Accused Mastermind Niraj Bishnoi for ‘Bringing Disrepute’

The alleged mastermind behind the Bulli Bai app, Niraj Bishnoi on Thursday was suspended by the Vellore Institute of Technology, Bhopal.

21-year-old Bishnoi, alleged to have been the developer of the app was arrested by Delhi police from Assam on Wednesday night.

Niraj is a second-year B.Tech student at Vellore Institute of Technology(VIT) in Bhopal. The university’s decision to suspend him came after the institute got to know about his arrest in connection with the Bulli Bai case.

A letter issued by VIT, Bhopal, on Thursday read “Mr Niraj Bishnoi…studying BTech since September 2020 via Online has been arrested by Delhi Police in connection with his alleged involvement in Bulli Bai App. Accordingly, Mr Niraj Bishnoi is suspended with immediate effect from the university until further notice, in view of bringing disrepute to the University and defaming the name of the Institute.”

A top official of the university added, “We are very shocked to hear this news. Such a young student, and it’s hard to wrap our heads around all this fiasco. We have suspended him now, and are waiting for further updates in the matter from the officials.”

DCP (IFSO Unit) KPS Malhotra has alleged that “Niraj is the main conspirator and creator of the Bulli Bai app. Niraj revealed that he created the Twitter handle @bullibai_ and other handles.”

Niraj allegedly created the Bulli Bai app hosted by Github, in which photographs of hundreds of prominent Muslim women were misused.

According to reports, the 21-year-old lives in Assam’s Jorhat with his parents and two elder sisters.
