After 1800 hours of silence on Manipur violence, spoke for only 30 seconds: Congress slams PM Modi

New Delhi: Soon after Prime Minister Narendra Modi reacted to the incident of women being paraded naked in Manipur, the Congress launched a fierce attack on him. The Prime Minister’s statement was criticized as too little and too late. Also, expressed outrage that mere words are no longer enough.

After 1800 hours of unforgivable silence, the Prime Minister finally spoke about Manipur for a total of 30 seconds. Later, the PM tried to divert attention by equating Manipur’s colossal governance failures and humanitarian disaster with crimes against women in other states, especially opposition-ruled states. Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, and atrocities against women in states like Gujarat are being ignored”, tweeted Jairam Ramesh of Congress.

“It is too late. Also, mere words are no longer enough. Actions must speak louder”, said Jairam Ramesh. He said that PM Modi and Home Minister (Amit Shah) cannot escape responsibility for Manipur violence.

Jairam Ramesh alleged that Prime Minister Modi has sidelined the issue of communal violence in Manipur and is not making any appeal for peace. He said that Prime Minister Modi, who has broken his silence on the Manipur video, is doing politics by talking about Rajasthan and Chattisgarh.

Commenting on Manipur women’s nude march, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that the incident can never be condoned, while mentioning the Congress-ruled states of Rajasthan and Chattisgarh, Prime Minister Modi appealed to the Chief Ministers of all states to protect the safety of women.
