Bengal CPIM secretary Md Salim emerges as the candidate from Murshidabad

The Left Front on Saturday named the secretary of Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPIM) West Bengal, Md Salim as the eligible candidate from Murshidabad for the upcoming Lok Sabha polls, officials said.

Apart from Salim, three other candidates’ names have also been announced as a part of the second list of the Left Front. The other three names include Alokesh Das from Ranaghat, Shyamali Pradhan from Bolpur constituency and Sukriti Ghosal from Burdwan-Durgapur.

It was on March 14 that the Left Front had announced the candidates for 16 of the total 42 Lok Sabha seats. Out of the 16 names, 13 were from the CPI(M) and one member each was from the Communist Party of India, Revolutionary Socialist Party and the Forward Bloc.

Salim has been representing the CPIM in the Rajya Sabha for the last 12 years. He was also a two-term Lok Sabha member. During the year of 2019, Salim had contested from Raiganj but he lost the elections that time. In 2021 also, during the West Bengal assembly polls he contested the Chanditala Assembly seat in Hooghly but was defeated in that year also.
