CAA will be canceled if ‘India’ alliance comes to power: Shashi Tharoor

“If the ‘India’ alliance comes to power in India after the Lok Sabha elections, the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) will be repealed,” Congress MP Shashi Tharoor said. “CAA is morally and constitutionally wrong,” he argued.

“When the country was divided, those who said that religion should be the identity of the country walked out of the country and established the country of Pakistan. Mahatma Gandhi, Jawaharlal Nehru, Maulana Azad, and Dr. BR Ambedkar said that religion is not the foundation of a country, our freedom struggle is for everyone, the country we built and our constitution is for everyone,” Shashi Tharoor recalled the history.

“The CAA was passed four years ago. But now as the Lok Sabha elections are coming, it is clear that it is being implemented for electoral gains. I fully support the Indian Union Muslim League which has moved the Supreme Court against the CAA,” he said.

“If the All India Alliance and the Congress party come to power, we will repeal the suspicious laws. This will be our manifesto. “We cannot support the law that religion is important to our civilization,” he said.

The central government implemented the CAA on March 11, and the opposition has been lashing out at the centre. Opposition parties are all set to move the Supreme Court against CAA.
