School Children crossing reservoir using thermocol rafts: Voluntary complaint by Bombay High Court

A video of children from Bhiv Dhanora village in Maharashtra’s Aurangabad district crossing using thermocol rafts went viral on social media last week. It is reported that the Bombay High Court Aurangabad Bench has initiated a voluntary inquiry in this regard.

A report was published about 15 children of Bhiv Dhanora village in Aurangabad district crossing the Jaikwadi dam reservoir to go to school every day sitting on thermocols.

The father of a student explained, “I don’t want my children to become illiterate like me. My daughter and son are going to school using thermocol sheets. The presence of poisonous snakes in the water is frightening”.

The ‘Bar & Bench’ said that Shendoornikar will file a plea on September 4 (today) and the court will issue further directions.

It also said that the motto of the slogan ‘Beti Bachao, Beti Padao’ (Protect, Educate the Girl Child) will be realized only if a safe and friendly environment is created for the girl child. The High Court had directed the state government to build good roads so that children can go to school without any problem.
