Dalit Girl Rape Case: Three Sangh Parivar Workers Arrested

Vitla police have arrested three Sangh Parivar activists in connection with the rape of a minor girl belonging to the Dalit community.

Police said that the arrested accused are Akshay Devadiga (24), a resident of Beripadavu, Moodbidri, Kamalaksha Belchada (30), a resident of Kojappa, Bayaru village, and Sukumar Belchada (28), a resident of Beripadavu.

Accused Akshay was staying at his brother’s house in Beripadav and was doing painting work, while Kamalaksha was doing plaster work and Sukumar was working as a driver. The police said that all the arrested accused are Sangh Parivar activists.

In 2019, a girl belonging to a Scheduled Tribe was raped by Jayaprakash at her relative’s house. Last January, Achu Yane Akshay came near Beripadavu school and raped her 3 times on different days.

Last May, Beripadavu Raja called the girl and asked her to come to the hilly place of Beripadavu Vidyaranya School and raped her against her will, promising to marry her.

In the first week of last June, Sukumar was introduced by a person named Akshay and asked her to come to Beripadavu to marry him. Also, on the night of 28.07.2023, Kamalaksha Belchad promised to marry her and asked her to come to the empty house of his relative in Bayaru village, when the girl went he raped the girl against her will. The girl gave a statement about all these incidents in front of the police and a case under POCSO and dalit violence was registered in the Vitla police station.

Police said that a POSCO and rape case has been registered against the accused and two more accused are absconding.
