52 persons perished in fire mishap in Bangladesh

Dhaka: As many as 52 persons reportedly perished in the fire that broke out in a juice factory in Narayangaanj area.

The local media of Bangladesh has claimed that around 50 persons have sustained injuries in the fire mishap.

According to resources, the fire was noticed on Thursday evening, and has already taken 52 lives while the condition of several injured is said to be critical.

Some eyewitnesses said that many workers were seen jumping out of the building to save their lives, during which many could have sustained injuries.

Some 18 firefighting machines were pressed into service to douse the fire and save as many lives as possible from the fire engulfed building.

The preliminary reports suggest that the fire might have started from the ground floor and spread fast to remaining floors. The chemical and plastic materials stored in the factory is believed to have caused fire to reach faster.

The officials however have said that they have yet to ascertain the total damage, and added that their priority is to save lives caused by the fire tragedy.

Meanwhile a five member team has been constituted to probe into the incident.
