Lanka gave wind power project to Adani, under Modi’s pressure: Sri Lankan official, retracts statement later

In the now retracted statement, a Sri Lankan official, MMC Ferdinando, the Chairman of Sri Lanka’s Ceylon Electricity Board had claimed- Sri Lankan President Rajapaksa had told him that PM Modi had pressured him to give the wind power project directly to the Adani Group. He had made this claim on Friday at an open hearing of the Committee on Public Enterprises (COPE), a parliamentary panel, NDTV reported.
President Rajapaksa strongly denied the claims on Twitter,

“Regarding the award of a Wind Power Project in Mannar, I categorically deny authorisation to award this project to any specific person or entity. I trust responsible communication in this regard will follow.”

The very next of making the claims Mr. Ferdinando has withdrawn his comments claiming he had been “overcome with emotion” because of questions suggesting wrongdoing by him, on Sunday. Mr. Ferdinando has also resigned from his post.

Sri Lanka’s economy has hit an unparalleled crisis last month since its independence in 1948. Following which Sri Lankan PM resigned.
