The opposition on Wednesday moved a no-confidence motion against Prime Minister Modi’s government in the Lok Sabha.
Opposition alliance INDIA wants a debate to draw attention to the issue of communal violence in Manipur. Their aim is to put pressure on the entire government, not just through the Union Home Minister.
Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla accepted the no-confidence motion and assured an appropriate time for a debate on the issue. However, it is the Congress party’s demand that the discussion should be held on Thursday itself.
The opposition is demanding a statement from Prime Minister Narendra Modi on this issue, but Modi has remained silent on the issue. That is why the Monsoon session of the Parliament has continued with noise.
Speaking about this, RJD MP Manoj Jha said, “The opposition has moved a no-confidence motion against the government. This time the no-confidence motion is also important because we don’t like Prime Minister Modi and he is accountable to people. In Manipur they have a legislative majority and no moral majority…” he lashed out.
“The situation in Manipur can improve if PM Modi speaks… We want Parliament to express collective shame over this incident… People of Manipur have not been made to feel that they belong to India, which is dangerous for the entire union system,” he said.
Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla yesterday accepted the no-confidence motion moved by Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi against the Centre to persuade Prime Minister Modi to make a statement in the House on the Manipur violence. The no-confidence motion was passed with a year to go before the national elections.
