The West Bengal government has decided to scrap the Letter of Agreement (LOI) handed over to Adani Ports last year to develop the Tajpur deep sea port, moderates have reported.
A Letter of LOI is a preliminary agreement between two or more parties before finalizing a formal contract.
On Tuesday, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee made the announcement at the Bengal Global Business Summit. 25,000 crores from their government. It said it would soon restart the tender process for seeking fresh bids for the Tajpur Deep Sea Port project.
“The proposed deep sea port at Tajpur is ready. All of you can participate in the tender. It will attract an investment of around Rs 25,000 crore,” Banerjee said.
Banerjee had handed over the LoI to Adani Ports CEO Karan in Kolkata in October last year. The consent was handed over two months after industrialist Gautam Adani attended the Bengal Global Business Summit 2022 and announced an investment of Rs 10,000 crore.
However, this year, there was no representation from the Adani group at the West Bengal government’s showpiece industrial event.
The TMC government took the decision to reject the Adani deal after Trinamool Congress MP Mahua Moitra was embroiled in a Kasi question controversy.
Advocate Jai Anant Bodetroy had filed a complaint against Moitra to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, alleging that BJP MP Nishikant Dubey had been bribed to ask questions in Parliament on the orders of businessman Darshan Hiranandani to target Adani Group and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Moitra has vehemently denied the allegation and the Ethics Committee of the Lok Sabha is probing the case.
