Bangladesh Serves as a Stark Reminder of Liberty’s Value: CJI Chandrachud

New Delhi: Chief Justice of India, DY Chandrachud, underscored the significance of liberty and freedom during India’s 78th Independence Day celebrations.

Drawing comparisons between India’s choice to embrace freedom in 1950 and recent events in Bangladesh, he emphasized the invaluable nature of these principles.

In his address, CJI Chandrachud urged citizens to cherish the hard-won liberty that should never be taken for granted. He reflected on the sacrifices of freedom fighters like Babasaheb Ambedkar and Jawaharlal Nehru, who left their legal careers to join the independence movement. Their efforts were crucial not only in achieving India’s freedom but also in building a strong and independent judiciary.

Chandrachud also spoke from his 24-year experience as a judge, highlighting the judiciary’s vital role in addressing the struggles of ordinary citizens and the importance of modernizing judicial infrastructure to ensure justice for all.
