Unveiling the Mystique of Mahakumbh 2025: A Journey into the Realm of Naga-Aghori Sadhus

The upcoming Mahakumbh in Prayagraj, 2025, promises to be an extraordinary experience for devotees and tourists alike. For the first time, the Uttar Pradesh State Tourism Development Corporation (UPSTDC) is offering a unique package that allows visitors to explore the intriguing lifestyle of Naga-Aghori sadhus.

Earlier, devotees could only catch a glimpse of Naga-Aghori sadhus during the royal bath procession. However, this time around, UPSTDC is providing an opportunity for people to visit their camps and understand their way of life. Trained guides will escort visitors to the akhadas (camps) and share fascinating stories about the Naga-Aghori’s history, tapasya (austerity), and lifestyle.

To make the experience even more memorable, UPSTDC is offering special packages that include water sports at Arail Ghat, cruise and boat rides to take in the breathtaking views of the Ganga-Yamuna rivers, and meditation sessions conducted by trained instructors at Arail Ghat.

Naga-Aghori sadhus are known for their austere lifestyle, living without clothes even in freezing temperatures. New recruits undergo rigorous puja and tapasya before being inducted into the akhadas.

Mahakumbh is one of the world’s largest spiritual gatherings. This year’s event promises to be even more spectacular, with elaborate arrangements for devotees and tourists. As Jayveer Singh, Tourism and Culture Minister, puts it, “Mahakumbh 2025 will be more divine and grand than ever before.”
