Calcutta High Court Transfers RG Kar Medical College Probe to CBI, Citing Financial Irregularities

Kolkata (PTI): The Calcutta High Court on Friday ordered that the investigation into alleged financial irregularities at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital be transferred from a state-appointed Special Investigation Team (SIT) to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).

The ruling came in response to a petition filed by Akhtar Ali, the former deputy superintendent of the medical college, who called for an Enforcement Directorate (ED) investigation into financial misconduct alleged during the tenure of the college’s former principal, Sandip Ghosh.

Justice Rajarshi Bharadwaj instructed the CBI to submit a progress report within three weeks, with a follow-up hearing scheduled for September 17 to review the findings.

The West Bengal government had previously established the SIT on August 20 to investigate the alleged financial misconduct at the institution.
