Chikkaballapur is haunted by child marriage; 317 girls got pregnant in three years

Although there are laws against child marriage and various awareness programs are being conducted, the evil practice of child marriage has not yet been completely curbed.

Thus, girls who get married at an early age are becoming mothers before their childhood ends. They are taking the responsibility of guiding and playing with children at the age of playing.

In the home district of Minister Lakshmi Hebbalkar, 336 girls have become pregnant in the last year. Similarly, reports said that 317 girls became pregnant in the last three years (from 2021-2023) in Chikkaballapur district.

According to the statistics of the Reproductive and Child Health (RCH) portal, 124 girls under 18 years old in 2021, 158 girls in 2022, and 35 girls are pregnant till November 2023 in Chikkaballapur district. These statistics prove that child marriages are prevalent in the district.

Bagepally taluk has the highest number of pregnant women in the district in the last three years. A total of 87 girls are pregnant in the taluk. A total of 75 girls are pregnant in Shidlaghatta taluk which is in the second position.

Efforts are being made to prevent child marriage. Authorities are also conducting awareness campaigns. However, many child marriages remain undetected. It is said that child marriages are coming to light when girls become pregnant.
