Delhi Chalo: Farmers who will march again today

Yesterday (Feb. 13), a temporary truce was announced for a day after the police forcibly stopped the protesting farmers on the Punjab-Haryana border. Delhi Chalo has resumed today.

Yesterday, the protesting farmers had decided to break through the barricades erected by the police on the Shambhu border of Punjab and Haryana and march towards Delhi. In this case, the police forcefully used tear gas, smoke bombs, and water cannons on the farmers.

More than 70 farmers were injured in the tear gas shell blast by the police. Also, some farmers were taken into custody by the police at the Ambala border.

Meanwhile, the farmers announced on Tuesday evening that the protest march will be suspended temporarily.

More than 200 farmers’ organizations in the country have protested demanding the fulfillment of many demands, including the provision of a ‘legal guarantee’ to the Minimum Support Price (MSP).

MSP will be implemented if it comes to power: Congress
Congress, the main party of the coalition, has said that if the Union of India comes to power, it will implement the recommendations of the Swaminathan Commission, including the guarantee of a minimum support price (MSP) law.

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi posted about this on ‘X’ and said, ‘This decision taken by the party will change the lives of 15 crore farmer families. This is the first guarantee given by the Congress to provide justice to the farmers. He urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to ‘talk directly to the protesting farmers and provide them justice.

Party General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi posted on ‘X’, ‘It is the right of farmers to get a fair price for the crops they grow. Farmers want a decent income, not tear gas, gunfire, or violence. “Congress will stand with the farmers who are fighting for their fair demands,” he said.

AICC president Mallikarjuna Kharge, speaking at a meeting held as part of the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra in Chhattisgarh’s Ambikapur, said, ‘If the Congress party comes to power at the centre after the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, it will provide legal guarantees to the MSP’.
