PM suggests ‘one nation, one Uniform’ for police

The idea of “One Nation, One Uniform” for police was suggested by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday. He emphasized that this was only a suggestion and he was not attempting to compel the states to adopt it.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, was virtually addressin the Chintan Shivir for Home Ministers of states in Haryana.

The prime minister remarked, “One Nation, One Uniform” for police may happen, may not happen today, may take 5, 50, or 100 years, but let’s give it a thought”.

According to PM Modi, all of the nation’s police officers might have the same identity. In order to combat crime and criminals, the prime minister also favoured close state cooperation.

The two-day Chintan Shivir is an effort to bring a national perspective to policy formation on internal security-related issues, according to a statement from the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO).

The meeting was attended by chief ministers of eight states, as well as the home ministers and deputy chief ministers of sixteen states. Amit Shah, the Union Home Minister, chaired the two-day the Chintan Shivir.
