The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) will render a pivotal decision today regarding Vinesh Phogat’s wrestling career. This follows her disqualification from the Paris 2024 Olympics’ 50kg weight class final for exceeding the weight limit by just 100 grams.
Phogat, who had announced her retirement after the disqualification, has challenged the ruling with the support of the Indian Olympic Association. She is now seeking a shared silver medal through CAS. Currently, Sarah Hildebrandt of the USA holds the gold, while Yusneylis Guzman Lopez, whom Phogat defeated in the semi-finals, has claimed the silver after competing for the gold medal against Hildebrandt.
A favorable CAS ruling could see Phogat awarded a joint silver medal alongside Guzman Lopez.
