Hijab Row: FIR against CFI for allegedly threatening teachers in Udupi college, Govt informs HC

The Karnataka government on Thursday told the High Court that an FIR against the members of the Campus Front of India (CFI), who allegedly threatened some teachers in the Government Pre-University Girls College in Udupi.

State Advocate General Prabhuling Navadgi informed the full bench comprising of Chief Justice Awasthi, Justice J.M. Khazi and Justice Krishna S. Dixit that an FIR has been registered and he has furnished details relating to the CFI in a sealed cover to the bench.

Following the Karnataka High Court’s interim order on hijab row, a private college in Bengaluru asked a baptized Sikh girl to remove her turban. However, the girl’s family, according to PTI said that their daughter will not remove the turban and is taking legal opinion, as the government and Court’s order did not mention the Sikh turban.

On Thursday, the full bench has also indicated that it wants to conclude the arguments related to the hijab controversy on Friday. It also adjourned the hearing for the day to Friday.

Dismissing the petition filed by All India Democratic Women’s Association as not maintainable, the High Court pointed out that the aggrieved persons are already before the court, in a reference to petitions filed by students from Udupi and Kundapura colleges.

On Wednesday, the court had said that it’s interim order applies both to PU and degree colleges, wherever a uniform is prescribed. They must follow its Feb 10 interim order until a final verdict is given.
