Jewelry Shops Sealed for Alleged Weight Fraud in Customer Transactions

Mandya: Officials have taken action against three jewelry shops in Pandavpur town of Mandya district for cheating customers by using tampered weighing machines.

A team from the State Food Commission seized the electronic weighing machines from Mahalakshmi Banker and Jewellers, Mahendra Jewelers, and Lakshmi Jewelers, which were found to be inaccurately measuring weight.

The weighing machines in these shops were found to have a difference of one to one and a half grams, leading to significant financial losses for customers. Given the current market value of gold at Rs.7000 per gram, the fraud perpetrated by these jewelry shops was substantial.

The owners of the shops have been issued notices for not obtaining or renewing licenses for their jewelry businesses. The State Food Commission has also directed authorities to take action against officials who fail to conduct regular checks on such establishments.
