Karnataka Government Urges Public to Celebrate “Green Diwali” with Eco-Friendly Guidelines

Bengaluru: Ahead of the Diwali festivities, the Karnataka State Government has issued guidelines to minimize noise and air pollution, urging citizens to adhere to eco-friendly practices in line with the Environment (Protection) Regulations, 1986, and subsequent amendments. The government highlighted the importance of these measures for public health and environmental protection.

The guidelines emphasize that only Supreme Court-approved green firecrackers are allowed, with sales and storage requiring prior authorization from relevant authorities.

Green firecrackers may be used strictly between 8 pm and 10 pm, as stipulated by the Supreme Court to control pollution levels. The state has prohibited firecrackers that produce noise above 25 decibels, ensuring compliance with Green Tribunal directives that all green firecrackers feature a green label and QR code.

In addition, the use of firecrackers is banned at all times within silent zones, including hospitals, schools, religious institutions, and senior care homes. Violations of these measures will result in strict enforcement under the Act.

The state government urges citizens to join in celebrating a “Green Diwali-Healthy Diwali: Eco-Friendly Diwali,” prioritizing a cleaner, healthier environment this festive season.
