Karnataka Mandates Use of Nandini Ghee in Temple Prasadam Following Tirupati Laddu Scandal

Following the recent revelation of animal fat and fat being used in Laddu Prasad offered at the Tirupati temple, the Karnataka government has taken decisive action.

The Commissioner of Hindu Religious Endowments and Charitable Endowments Department has issued a circular mandating the use of pure Nandini ghee for all prasadam preparation in state-affiliated temples.

This directive applies to all services, lamp lighting, and the preparation of various prasads, including those served in Dasoha Bhavans. The department has emphasized the importance of maintaining the highest quality standards in temple-prepared prasads.

To ensure compliance, a copy of the circular has been disseminated to District Collectors, Assistant Commissioners of the Religious Endowment Department, and Executive Officers across Karnataka.

Notably, Nandini ghee from the state has not been supplied to Tirupati for the past three to four years, with the tender being awarded to private companies. Renowned for its purity, Nandini is widely recognized as “Thuppa Shudda” throughout India.
