Supreme Court Initiates Voluntary Inquiry Into Karnataka High Court Judge’s ‘Pakistan’ Remark

New Delhi: The Supreme Court has voluntarily taken up video clips containing controversial statements made by a Karnataka High Court judge during the trial of a case and has ordered the Karnataka High Court to submit a report on the same.

A five-judge bench comprising Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud, Justice Sanjiv Khanna, BR Gavai, Suryakant, and Hrishikesh Roy today directed the Karnataka High Court to report on the matter.

During an inquiry, he said, “Go to the Mysore road flyover and see, there are 10 people in every autorickshaw. The law does not apply here. Because the Mysore flyover goes from Goripalya to the market on the left. It is in Pakistan, not India. This is reality. No matter how strict a police officer is appointed there, they will be beaten up,” said Vedavyasachar Sreeshananda Sai. The Justices’ statement drew widespread criticism.

The court directed the Registrar General of the High Court to submit a report in this regard to the Supreme Court. The further hearing has been adjourned to Monday.
