Tragedy in Manipur: Two CRPF Soldiers Sacrifice Lives in Recent Violence

Two Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) jawans were martyred in the midnight violence on Friday in Manipur’s Naramsena area. The police said that the personnel lost their lives in the attack carried out by militants belonging to the Kuki community.

According to the police, the attack started at midnight and the CRPF personnel were attacked till 2:15 am. The personnel who lost their lives belonged to the CRPF 128 Battalion deployed in the Naramsena area of ​​Bishnupur district of the state.

Meanwhile, Manipur Chief Electoral Officer Pradeep Kumar Jha said on Friday that the second phase of the Lok Sabha elections saw high turnout outside Manipur and no major incidents of violence.

“Until the last report we received about an hour ago, the polling was in the range of 75 percent. “No major crises have been reported,” Manipur Chief Electoral Officer said on Friday. According to the Election Commission of India, the voter turnout in the second phase of elections in Manipur was finally 78.78 percent.

“People turned up in large numbers to exercise their rights during the second phase of polling. An incident of EVM malfunction was reported at the polling station. “Otherwise, there is no disturbance anywhere,” he said.

“Voting in the Outer Manipur constituency was more peaceful compared to the 2019 elections. “There were no major incidents and the turnout was very encouraging,” Jha said.

Earlier, there were several incidents of violence during the first phase of polling on April 19. Re-polling was held on April 22 in 11 polling booths of the Inner Manipur constituency due to the vandalism of EVMs.

The first phase of voting for the seven-phase general elections was successfully held on April 19 in 102 constituencies across 21 states and union territories. On April 26, the second phase of polling for 88 seats in 13 states and Union Territories ended at 6 pm.

The next round of voting will be held on May 7 and the counting and results will be announced on June 4.
